Sabarimala Gold Theft: Kerala High Court Sets Timelines For SIT To Request Prosecution Sanctions In Dwarapalaka, Doorframes Cases

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday (October 7) set timelines for the Special Investigation Team to request for prosecution sanction and for submitting final reports in the Sabarimala Gold Theft cases.
Time has been granted till October 25 in the Doorframes case. In the Dwarapalaka idols case, the time granted is till November 25.
The Division Bench of Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V. and Justice K.V. Jayakumar recorded the submission made by Sasidharan IPS, the investigating officer heading the SIT that the report from the National Metallurgical Laboratory is yet to be received and is expected to be ready by October 12.
On September 3, the Court had directed the SIT to submit the final report in the doorframes case [Crime No. 3701 of 2025] by September 25. The officer also submitted that request for prosecution sanction and laying of the final report in the case can be done by October 25. Taking note of the investigating officer's submission, the Court granted extension till the said date.
The Court further perused the draft chargesheet submitted and took note of the fact that prosecution sanction is required in the case since offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act are alleged.
With respect to the case relating to the misappropriation of gold from the Dwarapalaka idols, the investigating officer informed that the request for prosecution sanction and submission of final report can be done by November 25.
"We make it clear that, now that the relevant analysis reports have been obtained and the report from the Forensic Science Laboratory has also been received, and having regard to the fact that the investigation in both crimes is stated to be at its final stage, all necessary steps shall be taken to ensure that the request for prosecution sanction in Crime No. 3701 of 2025 is submitted on or before 25.10.2026 and that the corresponding request in Crime No. 3700 of 2025 is submitted on or before 25.11.2026. The Special Investigation Team shall make every endeavour to adhere to the aforesaid timelines and bring the investigation to its logical conclusion without any further delay," the Court observed.
The case is posted to October 26 for further consideration.
