Sikkim High Court To Organise National Conclave On Technology And Judicial Education At Gangtok

The High Court of Sikkim is organising a two-day “National Conclave on Technology and Judicial Education” at Gangtok on May 1 and 2, 2026. The conclave will include the following conferences:National Technology Conference for Transformation of the Indian Judiciary; andConference of Commonwealth Judicial Educators in the Digital Age, organised by the Sikkim Judicial Academy under the aegis of the High Court of Sikkim and in association with the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA).The conference will be inaugurated on May 1 by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant who will be delivering the inaugural address. Meanwhile High Court Chief Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque will be delivering the Presidential address. The Felicitation Address will be given by Attorney General of India R. Venkataramani. Notably the Special Address will be delivered by Seychelles Supreme Court Chief Justice Rony James Govinden. Further Supreme Court judge Justice J.K. Maheshwari will be delivering the keynote address. Chief Minister of Sikkim P.S. Tamang (Golay) will be delivering the Executive address. Concluding Remarks will be delivered by Sikkim High Court Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai. Advocate General, Sikkim and Presidents of the Bar Associations of Sikkim will be in attendance. The Closing Plenary on May 2 will witness Welcome address by Tashi Rapten Barfungpa, President–Bar Association of Sikkim, with observations by Professor (Dr.) S. Sivakumar President, Commonwealth Legal Education Association.High Court judges Justice Bhaskar Raj Pradhan will be delivering the reflections on the event, meanwhile Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai will be addressing the key takeaways. Notably, a special address will be delivered by Sri Lankan Supreme Court judge Justice A.H.M.D. Nawaz. The valedictory address will be delivered by Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur. The conclave aims to deliberate on the growing role of technology in strengthening judicial systems and enhancing judicial education in the digital era. It will provide a platform for discussions on the integration of technology in court processes, capacity building, and improving access to justice.It will also serve as a forum for Commonwealth judicial educators to deliberate on best practices in digital judicial education, facilitate the sharing of experiences in integrating technology into judicial curricula, promote cross-border cooperation in developing digital competency standards for judges and other stakeholders, and address the ethical use of AI and other digital tools.The National Technology Conference for Transformation of the Indian Judiciary organized by the High Court seeks to:Promote integration of digital technologies in judicial processes and court administration.Strengthen e-Courts initiatives and digital case management system.Road map for mandatory e-filing, removing barriers, and adopting user friendly e-filing module.Encourage adoption of AI, data analytics, block chain, and cyber security tools in justice delivery.Restructure business process engineering, model rules for the State.Develop a roadmap for paperless Courts and virtual hearings.Meanwhile the Conference of Commonwealth Judicial Educators in the Digital Age organised by Sikkim Judicial Academy under the aegis of the High Court of Sikkim in association with Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) seeks to:Create a platform for Commonwealth judicial educators to exchange best practices in digital judicial education. Discuss innovative e-learning methodologies and virtual judicial training modules.Share experiences on integrating technology into judicial curriculum development. Promote cross-border cooperation in developing digital competency standards for Judges.Strengthen network among Commonwealth Judicial Academies and Institutions.Address ethical considerations in the use of AI and digital tools in adjudication.Encourage collaborative research on the future of judicial education in a technology-driven world.The event will bring together judges, academicians, policymakers, and technology experts to share insights and best practices on modernising judicial administration.This initiative reflects the commitment of the High Court of Sikkim to promoting a technology-driven, efficient, and future-ready judicial system.The discussion themes for some of the sessions include–Designing Interactive Methodology in Judicial Training, Virtual Court Management: Challenges and Best Practices, Where AI Can Be Safely Introduced First, Curriculum Globalization and Transnational Law, Digital Challenges in Judicial Education: Cooperation across the Commonwealth.Click Here To Read/Download Brochure
